New Serson Ice Shelf Weather Station Collecting Realtime Data

One of the projects of the Ellesmere patrol was to install a satellite linked weather station near the Serson Ice Shelf on the northern coast of Ellesmere Island. This station is now providing realtime climate data for the coastal region in the vicinity of Ellesmere’s last remaining ice shelves, allowing more accurate modeling of climate forcing on the ice shelves. The station also provides another data node between the existing weather stations based at Alert and Eureka and will be utilized by Environment Canada for regional climate modeling and weather forecasting.
The weather station includes sensors that measure temperature, relative humidity, pressure, wind velocity, and solar radiation.
