Ellesmere Expedition Progress
March 10, 2008
We are currently in the preparation phase for the expedition, organizing equipment and logistics. The science team will rendezvous in Yellowknife with the Canadian Rangers in late March, then fly to Eureka weather station on Ellesmere Island for the final preparations before departure. On April 1st Patrol 1 (with science team members Derek Mueller and Andrew Hamilton) and Patrol 2 (with Luke Copland) will leave Eureka and head north by snowmobile, towing all equipment and supplies on komatiks (sleds). We will spend 2 weeks traversing the ice shelves, collecting samples and data before returning to Eureka around April 15th. Average temperatures at this time of year are expected to be around -25ºC.
